Decorating a picturesque Paphos Coast with 100 New Trees
GreenCyprusCom is proud to announce the success of a great opening event and wants to thank all the participants involved!
The organization’s first tree-planting event was held on February 15th 2017, bringing together people who care about nature and are commited to revive the island’s greenery. Several participants took part in the event including the representatives from the Department of Forests of Cyprus, the employees of Cyprus Inform Group and their families and friends.
Together, the volunteers successfully cultivated one hundred small olive and carob trees, paving the way for a greener environment. Thanks to the group’s combined efforts, fresh greenery now decorates the scenic area by the sea, on the way to Paphos, near Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s Rock).
Further care for these trees will be assumed by the Department of Forests of Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, and its key leaders, including Andreas Mavrogiakoumos, the senior conservator of forests. "During the next three years, the employees of the Department will take care of the planted trees." Mr Mavrogiakoumos, promised. He also added - "Trees require special attention in the summer. However, these types are best suited near the scorching sun and salty sea air".
More than 30 participants, including children took part in GreenCyprusCom’s first tree-planting event. The activity turned out to be a fun, enjoyable and interesting day out also for the children.
After planting the trees, all participants had a refreshing tea break with sweets, accompanied by enjoyable conversations. An entrepreneur and philanthropist German Lillevyali, who is the sponsor and initiator of GreenCyprusCom, thanked all the volunteers for their work and made the following announcement: "This is only the first step towards the restoration of the former grandeur of Cyprus forests.
The organizers are planning to plant about 2,000 trees throughout the year."
