The first major tree-planting event organised by the non-profit GreenCyprusCom organisation, with the support of the Department of Forests, is taking place this weekend on the 11th and 12th of March 2017, from 10:00am to 4:00pm near ‘Petra tou Romiou’ (Aphrodite’s Rock) in Paphos.

Following an open call inviting all interested volunteers to participate in the initiative, the organisation has received a heart-warming response, with hundreds interested in registering for the event.

The occasion will see 1000 trees planted in the area – with the support of pre-registered volunteers and experts from the Department of Forests – and marks the beginning of a movement launched and supported by all those concerned about the environmental wellbeing of the island and its future.

“I am delighted to witness the support of concerned citizens,” said GreenCyprusCom’s spokesperson, Lina Themistokleous. “Volunteers have really embraced the reforestation initiative and, by doing so, they aid the growth of the movement and help secure a better future for the island.”

Aside from long-term environmental benefits, tree-planting is a fun and educational activity for all ages. Not only does it provide an opportunity to connect with nature, but it also offers an especially unique experience for young ones, who will learn how to plant trees side-by-side adults, supervised and assisted by experts from the Department of Forests.

Volunteers are invited to join the tree-planting activities on either day during the upcoming weekend, and are encouraged to invite family and friends to make a day of it.

Being a non-profit organization, GreenCyprusCom relies on financial support from enthusiasts who know they can make a difference, as it is worth mentioning that the initial cost of planting and providing care during the first three years of a single tree’s life, amounts to an average of €19. You also can choose to support the project by offering either a one-time donation or by becoming a regular supporter.
